A Warm Welcome and New Beginning
Copper Canyon Wellness Center held its ceremonial opening on March 26, 2025. This grand occasion was graced by over 75 persons, including notable Tobago leaders, Dr. Faith Brebnor, Secretary of Health, Wellness, and Social Protection, and Mr. Kelvon Morris, Minority Leader and Area Representative for Darrel Spring/Whim.
Where Visions Collide
Marelyn McFarlane, delivered heartfelt opening remarks that underscored her journey from Tobago in the 1960’s to a seasoned career in nursing abroad. She eventually returned home to Tobago in 2006 and recognized the need for a dedicated facility for senior care in Tobago. Her vision was of a place where excellence in care would be the standard for seniors. A place where seniors would thrive, contribute to society, and live dignified lives, which is what Copper Canyon Wellness Center is committed to providing.
In the closing remarks, Lystra N. Antoine noted that sharing the vision of Mrs. McFarlane, enabled the rebirth and completion of the Center. She emphasized that the opening could not have happened without the exceptional contributions of many businesses, community members, contractors, and other individuals. The commitment to excellence underscored the design, furnishings, and offerings in the Center, which aims to be more than just a physical space. Copper Canyon Wellness Center is a place where seniors will live, and be engaged to thrive socially, physically, mentally, and spiritually.
Community Support and Leadership
Mr. Kelvon Morris echoed this enthusiasm, emphasizing the center’s potential to set a new standard for senior care not only in Tobago but regionally and globally. He praised the Center for its meticulous attention to detail and dedication to creating a home-like environment that fosters dignity and quality of life. “This center brings senior care to a completely new level,” Morris noted, highlighting opportunities for medical tourism, regular tourism, and even daycare services. He expressed excitement for future collaborations with the Tobago House of Assembly and other stakeholders to maximize the impact of Copper Canyon Wellness Center in the community.
Dr Faith Brebnor emphasized that Copper Canyon ushers in an entirely new standard of care – assisted living, for new groups of seniors. She thanked the team for thinking outside the box and for ensuring that the amenities provided at Copper Canyon are exceptional. She congratulated the team for going above and beyond and for helping the Tobago House of Assembly to make the island of Tobago, the greatest little island on the planet.
A Blessing for the Future
The opening ceremony also featured spiritual blessings, reinforcing the communal and compassionate ethos at the heart of Copper Canyon Wellness Center. A heartfelt prayer by Dr. Glenroy Frank set a tone of humility and purpose, and Pastor Williams said the prayer of consecration, asking for divine blessing and guidance in ensuring the facility fulfills its mission.

It invites the community, healthcare providers, and business leaders to join hands in supporting a vision where aging is graceful, respected, and celebrated.

The ceremony featured a vibrant musical performance by local musician Ricardo Seals before the ribbon cutting, beautifully underscoring the celebratory spirit of the day and the richness of Tobago’s cultural heritage.
